Ponzi doors for the new terminal at Venice airport

Sunday September 15 2019

The project for the new Venice terminal, an expansion program of the Terminal of over 100,000 square meters to respond to the most complex requests from a functional, architectural and construction point of view, in the land side and air side areas, for the handling the over 15 million passengers per year expected in future years. Ponzi participates in this extension by providing automatic entrances both for entry and internal compartmentalisation. The first phase of construction called Lot 1, with an extension of 11,000 square meters, is now completed and consists of a new 280-meter-long glazed gallery, which perfectly exploits the interstitial space and will be directly connected, through the new Moving Walkway, with the dock where water transport to Venice is attested. The second phase called Lot 2 involves a new expansion through two bodies to the north and south of the current terminal, a solution that allows to preserve the now consolidated architectural image of the entire complex. The expansion to the north will be used for the new area for security gates and passengers, while the areas to the south will mainly be used for non-Schengen passengers. In addition, the new bodies will be equipped with new aircraft access piers. The two lots will lead overall to the expansion of the passenger terminal area, currently in the planning phase, of over 90,000 square meters. Ponzi automatic doors equipped with an escape route device are used to maximize connectivity, both vehicular and pedestrian, to delimit the new VIP rooms, relaxation areas, large green areas, children's play areas, and entertainment cultural as well as commercial. Their technological and accurate design guarantee the greatest possible continuity with the architectural image of the current terminal; There is a great deal of attention to the finishing materials used and the planning of the interior spaces, in order to characterize the future "Marco Polo" terminal with its own specific identity; Ponzi automatic entrances guarantee characteristics of environmental compatibility and energy efficiency; The new structure, which will be completed by 2020, constitutes the first phase of the wider expansion project called Lotto2B, intended for Extra Schengen traffic, whose overall work will end in 2027. This is a major project for the activity of the airport, in consideration of the strong growth in volumes of non-Schengen passengers. which already today represent 32% of the total. The new work will increase the surfaces of the terminal with large and comfortable spaces.
